What brought this class to Cape Town.
The reasons that came up most across the class's applications.
Grouped from what each student wrote in their application. Most named more than one reason.
The program
Two health systems. One city. Three weeks.
Cape Town runs a public system and a private system side by side. The class spends a week inside each, then a week where medicine is heading next.
WEEK 1 · PUBLIC HEALTH
Where most of the country gets care.
Public hospitals, community clinics and mobile clinics that reach people where they live. High volume, real constraints, a lot of ingenuity.
“A new perspective of medicine in a place with less resources in public health.”
Jace Holley
University of Colorado Boulder
WEEK 2 · PRIVATE HEALTH
Specialist medicine at full resource.
Private practices and specialist physicians, plus hands-on time in a surgical skills lab practicing on simulators.
“Witness South Africa's private healthcare system firsthand.”
Natalie Goldman
University of Colorado Boulder
WEEK 3 · HEALTH TECH AND INNOVATION
Where medicine is going.
Research labs, preventative and longevity health, and the founders building new models of care.
“Exploring what comes next in the medical field.”
Brooklyn Morgan
University of Colorado Boulder
